Each piece so carefully thought out, and crafted magically - it was truly special. Into the bargain, the atmosphere of the studio - it looked for all, outside of the glass walls, like a forest, with the gentle rain spilling down the panes. An amazing experience! Thank you so much. P.S. You always select the crême de la crême of musicians - we are such lucky people to be able to experience this!" Yvonne & Ben, from Maylands (Concert, 23 November 2008) "Thank you for another uplifting concert on Sunday and sharing your discoveries of French flute treasures over three centuries. The choices of pieces built a beautiful picture for us and your artistry is inspiring! Looking forward to more next year." Kate, from South Perth (Concert, 23 November 2008) November 03 The French Flute ProjectMusic Research in Performance: The French Flute Project La Flûte Enchantée3pm Sunday 23 November 2008 Music Research in Performance is the forum where Dr. Emily Gunson shares aspects of her doctoral research in a practical way with the wider music-loving community. The French Flute Project explores the Classic French flute tradition, in which beauty and purity of tone was the primary objective. The exponents of this tradition were linked pedagogically through their teaching and mastery of the fundamental principles of technique, and their exquisite artistry is celebrated through programmes featuring music written by and for them. This inaugural concert commemorates the great French flautist Paul Taffanel (1844-1908), marking the centenary of his death. The programme also includes chamber works by the 18th-century founders of the Classic French flute tradition, Michel Blavet, Jean-Baptiste Wendling, and François Devienne, with music by Gabriel Fauré, and Philippe Gaubert’s enchanting “Soir païen” for soprano, flute, and piano. The venue is the Eileen Joyce Studio at the University of Western Australia’s School of Music. The fine acoustics and intimate atmosphere of this air-conditioned venue make it the perfect setting for this exciting new project, and there is ample free parking on site. Admission is $27 full, $22 concessions & seniors, includes programme & afternoon tea. Limited seating, so booking is recommended. Door sales available unless sold out.
